clinical faculty member (at the assistant, associate, or full
professor level) to serve as the Director of Field Education. This
position oversees field education curriculum and operations for
both the residential and online MSW programs. Knowledge of academic
and social work practice environments and ability to bridge and
communicate the interests of both communities is
necessary.Responsibilities*
- Provide leadership and direction for all aspects of the field
education component of the MSW curriculum, including practicum site
development and monitoring, field instructor training, and student
experiential learning activities to assure excellence and
quality.
- Directly supervise Assistant Director of Field Education and
Field Faculty, holding regular team meetings to plan and monitor
field program direction, priorities, and division of
responsibility
- Represent the SSW, university and the field education program
to community partners and other professional groups at the local,
regional, and national level.
- Work closely with the MSW Program Director, the Assistant Dean
of Enrollment Management, and the Director of Office of Student
Services to address student challenges and support needs.
- Assist/support individual Field Faculty, students, field
instructors, and field sites to address challenges that may present
during the field education process.
- Promote and maintain collaborative partnerships between human
services agencies and the SSW
- Identify new and emerging areas for student training and
develop appropriate placement opportunities to match these emerging
areas
- Initiate and participate in preparation of grant proposals and
other initiatives to enhance opportunities for student field
stipends
- Serve as a member of the Senior Leadership team of SSW
- Engage in other committee and service responsibilities as
identified by the Dean and the Associate for Educational
Programs.
- Plan, organize, publicize, and implement sessions to inform
students, field instructors and field liaisons of field education
policies and requirements, issues in student supervision, current
trends and issues in social work and their impact on field
education, the social work curriculum, research and other
developments in the School
- Teach two 3-credit courses per academic year
- Work in collaboration with faculty to develop, interpret,
implement, and monitor field curriculum, policies, and
procedures
- Counsel and advise students on issues related to field
instruction and career opportunities
- Work with faculty liaisons to manage field-related problems,
engage in effective dispute resolution, negotiation, handling of
confidential and other sensitive information Required

- Demonstrated leadership and commitment to diversity, equity

- Demonstrated experience in formal course teaching, mentoring,
and advising at the graduate student level
- Skills and knowledge of academic and social work practice
environments and ability to bridge and communicate the interests of
both communities
- Demonstrated experience and commitment to interprofessional and
experiential education and innovation
- Ability to build and sustain collaborative relationships with a
wide range of people and organizations
- Superior judgment, high level of professionalism, and
exceptional problem-resolution, time management, interpersonal and
community relations skills
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills; Ability to
handle sensitive situations with professionalism and tact
- Demonstrated ability in resource development through
grant-writing and inter-organizational collaboration
- Ability to be flexible, work well under pressure, high work
volume, and multiple time demands
- Must have the ability to be resourceful and creative in
developing and maintaining social work field placement
opportunities and experiential education content, while adhering to
relevant standards and educational policies of the School,
university, and the Council on Social Work Education
- Skill in management of administrative data and instructional
technology
- Demonstrated experience in grant writing and scholarly
publication is preferred
- An MSW degree from a Council on Social Work
Education-accredited program is required
- Candidates must be eligible for social work licensure in
Michigan, with a minimum of 5 years of post-MSW practice
experience, administrative experience, or a combination
- A minimum of two years experience in providing field education,
as faculty or field instructor, is required Underfill StatementThis
