Job Description:
POSITION SUMMARY:Provide the necessary welding skills and
leadership to the Engineering and Operations departments to achieve
optimal levels of safety, quality, productivity and delivery to
assure internal and external customer satisfaction.JOB TASKS &
RESPONSIBILITIES:The following job/task functions have been
identified as the core functions of this position. However, the
supervisor or manager may assign additional duties associated with
this position.Training Weld Engineers.Works on Corporate strategic
projects.Develop new welding technologies related to new products
requirement.Support Operations in acquiring the needed level of
equipment knowledge.Provide key input into the development of
departmental strategic goals along with identifying key measurable
to support the departmental goals.Specify welding equipment,
welding consumables, electrical and mechanical systems, robotic
systems, and any related components associated with the welding
process.Assist in development of the weld quality control
process.Guides design develops and tests welding methods,
materials, processes and results.Assist Quality Assurance
department in maintaining weld integrity. Interface with
manufacturing and maintenance to resolve welding and welding system
issues.Assist with MRO crib activities.Support project engineering
on new and existing programs.Assist in the integration, start-up
and debug of plant floor welding equipment.Champion assigned
engineering changes, communicate and coordinate accordingly to all
departments.Train, coach and mentor the welding process for weld
engineers, manufacturing and skilled trades colleagues.Direct
and/or participate in root cause analysis and team problem solving
activities (ex. 8D reports, department meetings, etc.).Review and
resolve all weld cut and etch and destruct related issues.Initiate
cross-functional equipment design reviews.Support new model
launches and improvement teams.Support tool tryouts at supplier and
in-house capability runs.Participate in cross-functional and
program management team activities.Ensure utilization of continuous
improvement of current processes.Co-responsibility for working with
Quality and Tooling Engineers on FMEA's and control plans.Initiate
purchase order requisitions for new jobs and engineering changes on
welding and assembly equipment.Program robots, pedestal welders,
and all other types of welding related equipment. JOB
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCEBachelor's degree (B.
A.) from four-year college or university; five years plus
relatedexperience and/or training; or equivalent combination of
education and experience.Hands on experience in manual and
automated welding processes REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIESWorking
knowledge of MIG and Spot-welding processesKnowledge of
manufacturing processes, product designs, safety, quality and
workflowExcellent " Hands on" welding and training skills.Knowledge
in robotic welding and material handling applications.Knowledge in
robotic programming (ex. ABB, Fanuc robots, etc.)Understanding of
electrical/controls circuitry and schematics.Knowledge of AutoCAD
and weld drawingsHigh level of cooperation and commitmentMechanical
AbilitySpecialized knowledge of the following:Weld power source,
wire feeder, torch and reamerPlasma cutting, grinding and rework
applicationsWeld shielding gas technologiesElectrical enclosures
and power requirements for weldingCustomer welding specifications
and testing requirementsGas metal arc weldingResistance spot
weldingPREFERRED ADDITIONAL SKILLS & ABILITIESAbility to work with
Microsoft Office at an intermediate level.PHYSICAL DEMANDS, WORK
ENVIRONMENT AND OTHER REQUIREMENTSDuties include but are not
limited to stand, walk, twist, bend, lift, see, talk and hear, with
an ability to travel. When visiting plant site locations, employees
may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, vibration or hazardous
