to society.Responsibilities*Duties:The Clinical Nursing
Director(CND) will plan and manage the clinical and administrative
operations of the Critical Care Transport Unit. The unit consists
of intra- (SWAT) and inter- (Survival Flight) facility transport.
The Intra-hospital team, SWAT, consists of RNs, paramedics and
administrative staff, providing critical care transport, moderate
level sedation, and non-patient emergency response to the medical
campus. The Inter-hospital transport team, Survival Flight,
consists of RNs, administrative staff, communication specialists,
pilots and mechanics providing rotor, fixed and ground
transportation of critically ill and injured patients, including
neonate, pediatric and adult populations. The CND assures
implementation of patient care and quality assurance standards;
plans, organizes and evaluate clinical practice and educational
activities. The CND works closely with the MPLAN Medical Director
to create and support an environment where cutting-edge and
innovative care is provided to a continually growing number of
critical care transport--patients. The CND is responsible for
administrative and personnel management.--RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop and implement unit goals and objectives which include
the establishment of standards of practice in patient care
consisted with national professional and regulatory
guidelines.
- Integrate unit goals and objectives with Nursing Service goals
and objectives. Advise and assist with the establishment of
priorities and institutional program development.
- Work closely with medical staff and other disciplines for the
successful implementation of patient, unit and institutional
objectives. Assist in the resolution of interdisciplinary operating
problems.
- Supervise operations of the unit. Establish minimum/maximum
staffing patterns to insure quality patient care. Initiate and
implement a staffing schedule which covers all three modes of
transport.
- Identify and recommend specific staffing needs and position
qualifications consistent with the respective unit objectives and
patient case mix.
- Interview and select qualified personnel.
- Evaluate performance of nursing staff responsible to patient
care unit. Make recommendations for merit awards and personnel
classification changes. Counsel and discipline nursing staff to
enable achievement of unit and institutional objectives,
particularly as related to high quality patient care.
- Interpret and implement University and hospital personnel
policies and programs and ensure their uniform and correct
application.
- Project and monitor personnel budget for patient care unit.
Provide information regarding budget variances to the ACNO.
- Collaborate and coordinate with other disciplines to plan,
evaluate, and implement the commodity budget for the patient care
unit.
- Initiate and implement in-service guidelines for unit level
orientation and staff development. Encourage and provide
opportunities for continuing education of the nursing staff.
- Initiate, plan, analyze, and participate in Nursing staff
development programs and workshops.
- Ensures ongoing--competency assessment occurs; provides
educational (didactic and hands on) experience for nursing and
communication staff, as required to maintain clinical standards as
required by the program and industry accreditation standards.
- Responsible for hiring--and--supervising--the Survival Flight
Communication Center personnel, whose primary responsibility is the
rotor wing and fixed wing operations,--ground activation, radio
transmissions from ambulance, paging of codes internally, and other
paging as requested (stoke, trauma) services.
- Evaluation of--the communication staff's performance related to
the communication center and its operations; to include counsel and
discipline of communication--staff to enable achievement of unit
and institutional objectives--Reporting Relationship: The Survival
Flight's Clinical Nursing Director reports to the Critical Care
Transport Associate Chief Nursing Officer.Expectations of the

- Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of
Michigan.
- Master's degree in Nursing or Health Care Administration,
Public Health, Business or related field (a Juris Doctor degree may
be considered). If Master's degree is not in Nursing, a Bachelor's
degree in Nursing is required.
- Two (2) years recent leadership experience, to include
demonstrated leadership, management, communication, counseling,
problem solving, decision making, conflict resolution and group
process skills
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience with
demonstration of progressive clinical competence NOTE: In order to
be considered for this position the applicant must have met or will
have met all the required qualifications prior to the start date of

- Two (2) years of recent supervisory experience in all modes--of
critical care--transport
- Minimum of five (5) years of nursing experience with
demonstration of progressive clinical competence in critical care
or emergency medicine
- Interest based problem solving and negotiations
- Familiar with the continuous quality improvement process is
desirable
- Demonstrated leadership and management skills including
personnel management and the ability to perform as a role model for
nursing staff
- Experience with change management process is desirableWork
