Job Description:

Overview The Ann Arbor Area Transportation Authority (TheRide), which operates accessible fixed-route bus, commuter, demand-response, vanpool and airport service in the Ann Arbor-Ypsilanti area -- home of the University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University and Washtenaw Community College, seeks an experienced transportation professional to serve as Deputy CEO, Operations (DCEO/O). TheRide's over 124 buses, paratransit and service vehicles, 270 employees, $54M operating and $16M capital budgets support 29 routes carrying over 6.6 million/yr to over 1,200 stops. As part of the AAATA's Executive Team, and reporting directly to the CEO, the DCEO/O will manage the Operations division: Bus Operations, Fleet Services, and Facilities Services, overseeing every aspect of service delivery and maintenance, and all associated resources. S/he will provide leadership and oversight to ensure that appropriate processes, procedures and systems are in place so TheRide can make informed decisions, to achieve its goals and run efficiently. S/he must think strategically and develop a high-performance team that ensures service meets the highest standards of safety, customer satisfaction, efficiency, and excellence. S/he will be attuned to emerging technologies and industry developments to keep TheRIde at the forefront of operational excellence and service delivery. Desired Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in operations, logistics, Business or Public Administration, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of progressively responsible leadership roles in operations in a public transit agency, government, or similar environment.
  • Experience with Federal Transit Administration programs and requirements strongly desired.
    • Considerable knowledge in preparation, development and administration of short- and long-range, strategic operational plans, and comprehensive reports and documents. Ability to analyze, recommend, and implement solutions to complex operational problems and issues.
      • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, Board members and the public.
