Summary

At the Eisenberg Family Depression Center (EFDC), our mission is to catalyze interdisciplinary collaborations that produce high-impact advances to improve the mental health and quality of life for individuals suffering, their families and communities.

We are seeking a Communications Manager to promote and communicate the efforts of EFDC and its affiliates to key stakeholders, partners and the general public. The Communications Manager will develop and execute communications strategies that helps strengthen the EFDC brand by increasing visibility and engagement across the University and our communities. The position will produce and manage communication plans for key programs, initiatives and events that utilize the Centers owned and earned media channels. The Communications Manager will oversee and guide the creation and dissemination of communication and marketing projects, including special web-based initiatives, video, impact reporting, donor relation materials and more.

    Responsibilities*

    • Develop and manage effective, priority-focused communications strategies that advance the mission and vision of the center and its programs and initiatives.

    • Oversee management of a new website, ensuring the EFDCs online presence remains on brand and aligned to the mission while also meeting the needs of our diverse membership base and community at large.

    • Plan and direct the design, production, and quality of communications products and materials including website, email newsletters and campaigns, presentations, print material, video and more.

    • Plan, research, and write original content to promote center activities both internally and externally.

    • Provide executive communications support for the managing director and the director.

    • Serve as liaison between the Center and communications experts across University of Michigan and Michigan Medicine to identify synergies and opportunities to leverage resources in support of the EFDC, and to share and learn best practices across a multitude of channels including web, print, social and external/mainstream media.

    • Develop and maintain strong, inclusive partnerships with internal teams, with the ability to facilitate brainstorm meetings, translate diverse feedback and influence decision making to move projects forward.

    • Manage relationships with vendors to support communications and marketing projects and deliverables. Manage all contracts to ensure adherence to U-M purchasing guidelines and policies.

    • Develop, monitor and assess longitudinal tracking of EFDC communication analytics, including owned media channels, external media hits, ongoing colleague/peer analysis and other areas as appropriate.

    • Manage creation and inventory of all logos, branded templates, marketing collateral, brand photography and other promotional materials.

    • Manage a high-performing communications team by providing leadership, mentoring and training, and cultivating a positive work environment.



      Required Qualifications*

      • Bachelors or Masters degree in Communications, Journalism, Marketing or another relevant field

      • 5 or more years of successful communications, journalism, or marketing experience

      • Demonstrated superior written and verbal communications skills and ability to adapt writing and communication efforts for a wide variety of audiences

      • Adept with current web content management systems (e.g., WordPress, Drupal, etc.) and various social media platforms (e.g., Twitter, LinkedIn, YouTube, etc.)

      • Experience working with an email marketing platform and knowledge of industry trends for effective use of social media

      • Top-notch interpersonal communications and relationship-building skills, team spirit, and drive

      • Ability to work as part of a team that values brainstorming and collaboration, as well as capacity to work independently and take initiative

      • Strong organizational skills, and ability to effectively manage numerous projects, simultaneously and in various stages of development

      • Must be productive and flexible under pressure and able to meet deadlines

      • Evidence of creative spark and initiative, accountability, discipline, and integrity



        Desired Qualifications*

        • Expertise in managing the web presence of an organization

        • Experience in or communicating with print media

        • Experience working within complex healthcare or academic settings

            Background Screening
