Overview









SRI's Federal Business Development (FBD) team provides researchers with full-service business development support, including customer relationship management, market and competitor intel, and qualified opportunities and proposal capture support. We seek a uniquely experienced, motivated, resourceful, and collaborative professional to serve as the FBD Proposal Support Manager. This position reports to the vice president of FBD. The successful candidate will be a motivated person with willingness to learn SRI's unique capabilities and proposal development processes and work in challenging situations to help our researchers achieve high proposal win rates. This is a hybrid position, the successful candidate will be driving distance from one of SRI locations in Menlo Park, CA, Ann Arbor MI, and Boulder, CO.













Responsibilities









The candidate will work side-by-side in a "one SRI team" model, with our scientists, engineers, business development professionals and other business and administrative team members, to help translate customer needs into discriminating technical and business solutions using SRI capabilities. General:

  • Manages a team of editorial and proposal support staff; manages editing schedule and assigns work according to editor availability, type of work, domain expertise, and timeline
  • Develops and presents training modules to help research staff write better proposals; leads compelling story discussions for selected strategic proposals to help increase proposal win rate
  • Identifies gaps or issues in the proposal process; develops and manages tools and templates for the FBD proposal toolkit and maintains the toolkit site on SharePoint; tracks the use of tools and analyzes outcomes
  • Partners across SRI to leverage corporate and division resources, share best practices, and improve overall approach to proposal capture support
    Writing and Editing:
    • Performs complex professional writing and editing of a variety of technical proposals reports, papers, presentations, and other materials; ensures technical documentation is grammatically correct, accurate, complete, meets editorial and government specifications, and adheres to standards for quality, graphics, format, and style
    • Works from drafts that may be incomplete or compiled from numerous authors working in different research areas and written in various styles; produces documents with a uniform voice
    • Establishes style guidelines and standards for text and illustrations; creates custom templates for proposals as needed; formats proposal volumes (technical, cost, administrative) as needed to meet solicitation requirements for format and content to create polished, submit-ready documents
    • Makes editorial and aesthetic improvements to proposals and recommends new designs, layouts, and procedures to enhance readability, highlight win themes and benefits, and fit page limits













      Qualifications









      Required:
      • Minimum of 15-20 years of related professional writing and editing experience
      • Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications or technical field
      • U.S. citizen with a current Defense Department Top Secret security clearance or ability to get a clearance
      • Understanding of federal market proposal requirements, policies, competitors
      • Excellent oral and written communication skills
      • Strong interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and lead team efforts as required
      • Ability to manage a wide variety of complex tasks and projects simultaneously
      • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel) and Adobe Acrobat; ability to learn other platforms and applications as needed
      • Knowledge of standard industry proposal writing practices, including storyboarding, color team reviews, and application of win themes
      • Advanced and demonstrated professional knowledge of the techniques of editing complex materials from a variety of disciplines
      • Ability to collect and organize information and produce products that demonstrate a complete range of technical and semi-technical writing and editing skills.
      • Demonstrated ability to work efficiently under extreme time pressures
      • Demonstrated knowledge of the rules and regulations that govern verbal language
        Preferred:
        • Top Secret Clearance (with SCI and/or CI Poly)
          Experience analyzing market drivers, technologies, customer mission requirements
          Proficiency with business development tools (Salesforce CRM, GovWin) The salary range is: $158,555.00-$202,880.00. Salary ranges will vary and are based on several factors, including geographic location, market competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar roles. Positions may also qualify for SRI's Pay for Outstanding Performance program or the annual Performance Based Compensation program.
