This position is for a Chief, outpatient Toledo Mental Health Clinic in the Mental Health Service of VAAAHS. The incumbent organizes and manages the delivery of comprehensive mental health & substance use disorders clinics, services and activities which serve veterans with a wide range of addiction problems. This position reports to the Chief, Mental Health Service.The Chief has broad program management responsibilities, which include the operation and management of key clinical, training, or administrative activities. Has direct responsibility for the professional activities of about 12 staff plus postgraduate professional trainees in psychiatry, psychology, and social work. Responsibilities include broad development and active implementation of programs, policies, and procedures; oversight of administrative and programmatic resources. Further, responsibilities include monitoring of outcomes using a data-driven quality assurance process for a program that delivers specialized, complex, highly professional services that are important components of the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, and significantly affect the health care provided to veterans.Specific clinical duties will be position-dependent and include providing comprehensive psychiatric care for veterans in Toledo, as well as participation in Clinical Video Conferencing (Tele-psychiatry). Responsibilities also include providing on-site coverage as needed in the VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System sites including hospital-based programs. Duties also include supervision of psychiatric trainees as well as contributing to the academic mission of the service.The VA Ann Arbor MH Service is a Partner Affiliate of the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Michigan Medical School. You will be joining a vibrant mental health service with academically active fellow psychiatry and psychology faculty and over 180 other interdisciplinary professional and support staff. Staff physicians may also include attendings who train physician residents assigned in facilities with residency training programs, and consultants who are capable of giving authoritative views and opinions on subjects in their field of medicine. Physical Requirements: Applicants must meet physical standards for the position. A physical examination prior to placement is required. Requires lifting 15-44 pounds; pushing (approximately 2 hours); reaching above shoulder; use of fingers and both hands; walking and standing from 3-5 hours and kneeling. Ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously. Must have depth perception and ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of colors. Hearing aid is permitted. Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP): Authorized This position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP), a student loan reimbursement program.
