retirement savings Responsibilities* To work with the veterinary
clinical faculty, veterinary residents, and other licensed
veterinary technicians to provide and help coordinate the medical
care of research animals within the Unit for Laboratory Animal
Medicine (ULAM); to serve as a liaison between the veterinary
clinicians and research laboratory personnel; and to maintain
complete and accurate medical records. Starting salary will be
between $20-25/hr. Additionally, the department provides benefits

Assisting in the implementation and coordination all ULAM
veterinary medical care protocols concerning maintenance of animal
health as well as prevention and treatment of disease in laboratory
animals. This often will involve communication with scientists and
staff within the University of Michigan research laboratories.
Providing direct assistance to the veterinary clinical faculty and
veterinary residents in the diagnosis and treatment of disease
Maintaining animal records to ensure compliance with regulatory
agency guidelines Attending and actively participating in team
meetings and clinical rounds Training laboratory personnel in
proper animal handling and restraint, as well as various medical
techniques Sharing equally with other licensed veterinary
technician team members to provide consistent care to all animals
on weekends and holidays Required Qualifications* Associates degree
in animal health technology. 1-3 years of experience Must have an
active Veterinary Technical license in the United States and has
passed the VTNE exam and be licensed in Michigan within 6 months of
hire. Ability to work independently as needed while still working
courteously and effectively with others. Ability and willingness to
work with many species including but not limited to mice, rats,
rabbits, ferrets, dogs, cats, sheep, pigs, cattle and nonhuman
primates. Significant experience related to animal handling,
methods of blood collection and drug administration, and
anesthesiology. Experience conducting diagnostic tests including
hematology, clinical chemistry, and endo- and ecto-parasitology
exams. Basic computer skills (word-processing, spreadsheets, and
e-mails). Work Schedule Provide work coverage until 5pm during the
weekdays. Expectation for covering weekend and holiday duties is a
shared responsibility amongst team members. Additional Information
