Surgical First Assistant Location: Midland, MI Agency: Cynet Health Pay: $2,298 per week Shift Information: Days - 4 days x 10 hours Contract Duration: 13 Weeks Start Date: 2/9/2026 About the Position Job Title: Certified Surgical First Assist Profession: Surgical First Assist Specialty: Operating Room Duration: 13 Weeks Shift: 6:30 AM - 5:00 PM Hours per Shift: 10 Hours Experience: 2 Years of Certified Surgical First Assistant Experience License: Active Certification through National Board of Surgical Technology and Surgical Assisting or American Board of Surgical Assistants Certifications: Active American Heart Association BLS Must-Have: - Skills Checklist, current to 1 year, pertinent to the specialty (Certified Surgical First Assist) - 2 Supervisory Reference Forms Completed within the last two years Description: This position prepares the surgical suite for the procedure by assisting the surgical technologist along with the registered nurse in gathering equipment, instruments, and supplies. The assistant ensures all supplies and equipment are available for the procedure and in working condition. This position assists the surgeon in the care of the patient while in the operating room. Responsibilities include providing exposure, aiding in hemostasis, closure, and other intraoperative technical functions that help the surgeon carry out a safe operation with maximum results for the patient. The assistant will apply appropriate dressing material specific to the procedure, as well as proper draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, suturing, tissue handling, and cautery techniques. This role requires assisting team members in transportation, positioning, and total care of patients. Knowledge of surgical procedures, anatomy, physiology, and operative techniques related to specific procedures is essential. The assistant must assure all necessary supplies, equipment, or instruments are opened or available and ensure items are charged appropriately by confirming with the nurse and surgical technologist. The assistant also assists the physician with proper positioning, draping, retracting, suctioning, sponging, tissue handling, cautery techniques, stapling devices, and suturing.
