BLS and ACLS Must-Have: Cath Lab RN Experience Description: This
position cares for patients before, during, and after angiography
and cardiac catheterization procedures. It includes pre-procedure
assessment, pre-medication, documentation of the catheterization
process, post-cath care, and patient education. The nurse scrubs in
for procedures and assists other members of the cardiac
catheterization laboratory. Responsibilities include performing
nursing care of the catheterization and angiography cardiovascular
patient. The RN will conduct other cardiac diagnostic nursing
procedures according to department protocol. Assisting in stress
echocardiograms, routine treadmill exams, nuclear and pharmacologic
stress testing, tilt table procedures, echocardiograms, and
transesophageal echocardiograms is required. The nurse assists with
preparation, procedure, and recovery for other interventional
radiology procedures. Patient safety evaluation and screening prior
to performing tests is a critical responsibility. Sedation
monitoring is done in accordance with hospital policy, and
appropriate documentation is required. Holter monitor and Event
monitor applications, ambulatory blood pressure monitor
applications, and pacemaker interrogations are tasks within the
role. The RN will insert PICC lines and function as a vascular
access expert to meet patient needs. Other necessary tasks as
assigned by management must be performed. The nurse operates
equipment and manages supplies, including cardiac output monitors,
hemodynamic devices, pacemakers, crash carts, IV pumps,
defibrillators, and point-of-care testing equipment. Scrubbing in
for procedures with the physician is expected. All pertinent
information must be recorded on appropriate data sheets.
Development, review, and enhancement of cardiovascular education
materials and programs are part of the role. The position includes
on-call rotation, requiring the RN to be available for 10 days of
call per month, including interventional radiology and STEMI.
Knowledge of cardiac rhythm interpretation and operation of an
intraaortic balloon pump is preferred. Travel work experience is
also favorable. Epic EMR experience is an added advantage.
Supervisory reference forms are required within the last two years.
All documentation must indicate an active Michigan nursing license.
