Summary Michigan Medicine is hiring an experienced compensation leader to join our expanding team in the newly created Manager of Compensation position, critical to executing our people strategies. Working collaboratively with the Director of Compensation, the Manager of Compensation will evaluate, improve, develop, and implement Michigan Medicine's compensation programs to advance health to serve Michigan and the world. The Manager of Compensation provides guidance and subject matter expertise to HR business partners, labor relations advisors, performance consultants and leaders regarding compensation recommendations, strategy, administration, procedures, policies, and communication. Reporting to the Director of Compensation, the Manager of Compensation manages a team of compensation analysts and provides functional leadership to other members of the compensation team. Manages the administrative processes for the team including actively recruiting bar-raising talent, developing professional development plans, conducting performance assessments, and ensuring employees have the resources and support to deliver their best work. Provides functional supervision to the executive and staff compensation consultants, senior compensation analysts and compensation administrative specialists that report directly to the Director of Compensation. Leads the entire compensation team in the Director of Compensation's stead. * Drives the design strategy of Michigan Medicine's compensation operations systems in support of our overall compensation strategy, with end-user experience and scalability in mind. Establishes mechanisms to accurately define, regularly monitor, and effectively improve overall health of all compensation programs * Evaluates the effectiveness of existing compensation policies, guidelines, and procedures. Creates solutions to address improvement opportunities and create/enhance tools to further automate processes. Using knowledge of and research about current trends, recommends program revisions as well as new programs which are effective, efficient, and are in support of and consistent with Michigan Medicine's objectives. * Supports the commitment to data-driven decision-making applying process improvement methodologies and leading the use of key performance indicators/metrics to bring forth positive change to improve existing processes. * Coaches and serves as a trusted advisor and a strategic partner to leaders and members of the human resources community * Facilitates, leads, and participates in large-scale organizational projects and multidisciplinary teams * Keeps apprised of federal, state, and local compensation laws and regulations and ensures that all compensation programs are compliant with regulations including FLSA, ADA and wage and hour laws. * Participates in professional development to maintain and grow compensation and leadership capabilities. * Performs other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications* Education: Bachelor's degree * Bachelor's degree in Economics, Mathematics, Psychology, Statistics, Business Administration, Finance, Human Resources, or other fields that use quantitative analysis or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience. EXPERIENCE: Minimum eight (8) * At least eight (8) years of progressive compensation and/or human resources experience with at least three (3) years of leadership experience. * Experience in all areas of compensation including job architecture, job evaluation, base salary management, bonus programs, recognition programs, severance programs, executive compensation, etc. * Demonstrable experience uncovering business needs, making recommendations, and developing solutions. Previous supervisory experience. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES * Project management skills including the ability to define program, project, or process objectives, identify stakeholders and their interests, plan steps, coordinate and allocate human, technology and financial resources to accomplish goals and objectives in a resourceful yet timely manner. * Leadership skills including demonstrated willingness to pursue leadership assignments with increasing levels of accountability, comfort with decision-making responsibilities, coaching, teaching and mentoring skills, and the ability to inspire and build confidence in others and to forge alliances and garner support * Demonstration of a high degree of intellectual curiosity to discover new approaches to recurring issues, tackling problem solving with a positive attitude and tenacity to complete difficult tasks. * Ability to think critically and independently and work under general direction. * Demonstrated bias towards action and an ability to deliver high quality results within tight timelines. * Proven ability to consistently exercise appropriate judgment and discretion in all job functions, even when clearly defined processes may not be in place. * Demonstrated technology literacy skills with proficiency in using MS office tools with the ability to create dynamic tools and models to interpret and analyze data. Desired Qualifications* * Cross-discipline experience as an HR Business Partner or similar experience. Experience working in health care and/or higher education * Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Ability to create dynamic tools and models to interpret and analyze data. Background Screening Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act.
