General Summary Under general direction of Department Manager of Central Sterile Reprocessing, the Supervisor, CSR manages workflow and quality of work of the CSR Technicians. Provides day-to-day guidance and supervision of staff to ensure quality of work. Cleans all contaminated instruments and materials from Main OR, ASF, Labor and Delivery, Cath Lab, Hemodialysis and Emergency Room. Loads and operates washers. Assembles instrument trays and operates autoclaves meeting quality standards. Circulates case carts after receiving preference cards from surgery sites. Responds to requests for unexpected needs and emergency items 24 hrs a day 7 days a week.Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesThe following description of job responsibilities and standards are intended to reflect the major responsibilities of the job.Team Lead Duties1. Demonstrates strong customer relations and communication style with staff and physicians.2. Coordinates activities of all CSR Technicians, including:Orients to all area and equipment within probationary period.Completes orientation checklist at indicated date, assists with performance evaluations.Issues occurrences corrective action under the direction of department manager.In-services staff as needed.Maintains all CSR Technician work schedules including on-call for adequate staffing, posts schedule three weeks request deadline.Maintains and updates knowledge of new and existing equipment and supplies including the various carts used in the department.Monitors completion of all education requirements in Health Stream for all CSR Technicians.Serves as a resource to staff in the cleaning, processing and assembly of instruments and equipment.3. Assists in ordering and maintaining adequate supplies and equipment:Attends various committee meetings as necessary to assist in updating staff with changes.4. Provides leadership for the CSR Technicians to ensure quality of services:Monitors CSR Technicians during assigned work shift in accordance with their scope of practice and SJMHS policies.Develops and meets goals and objectives which support departmental goals.Demonstrates effective time management by completing commitments within negotiated time frames.Demonstrates an ability to use all channels of communication to address concerns, solve problems and address conflicts.Ensures confidentiality is maintained for all patient and staff related information according to hospital policy.Serves as a liaison between CSR Technicians, CSR Manager and the Department of Surgery.Assists in conducting regular staff meetings.Assists in interviews, hires, trains, and evaluates day-to-day performances of CSR Technicians.5. Supports and facilitates trial of new equipment as requested.6. Maintains good rapport and cooperative relationships. Approaches conflict in a constructive manner. Helps to identify problems, offers solutions, and participates in their resolution.7. Required Education, Experience, and Certification/LicensureHigh school graduate or equivalent.Surgical Technologist with 2 to 3 years O.R. Experience and completion of Central Sterile Certification within 6 months of hire, if not included in the CST Program required;OR Graduate of Central Sterile Certification Program with 2 to 3 year's experience and Central Sterile Supervisory Certification.REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIESBroad knowledge of CSR Tech duties and equipment, computer keyboarding, supervision, and communication skills.
