The Software Engineer is part of the JSTOR development team focusing on software development automation, CI/CD, and internal tooling. You will be a crucial member of a dynamic agile team delivering leading edge solutions that drive a global content platform that serves millions of visitors each month.. The team coaches and trains software development teams on using continuous deployment pipelines with Kubernetes.. Activities range from software development and releasing, technical coaching, and stakeholder engagement.. The team regularly engage in Agile ceremonies, QA testing, pairing, and a shared on-call rotation.. Apply DevOps methodologies to create a seamless experience between operational and development processes to increase velocity, efficiency, and quality.. Design a first-class DevOps platform by architecting, developing, and enhancing event-based microservices.. Evaluate new technologies and integrate those that will add value and drive operational efficiency.. Responsibilities. The successful candidate will have demonstrated experience developing distributed web applications/microservice, a high degree of curiosity, excellent communication skills and growing leadership acumen. We look for candidates that possess proven problem recognition and problem-solving skills and a passion for learning through innovation.. The primary responsibilities of our Engineers include:. Work with Product Owners and software development teams to conduct Product Discovery.. Work with and incorporate feedback from the infrastructure platform team.. Support the build out of high-performance, elastic, and scalable web applications and microservices.. Provide mentoring around architectural patterns, coding practices, and problem solving.. Investigate and propose software and integration solutions to drive CI/CD adoption and safety.. Plan and facilitate training and design sessions within the team and with peer software development teams.. Who you are:. Proven coding abilities and experience with software engineering patterns.. Motivated to create exceptional & intuitive experiences. You care about Quality!. Experience creating RESTful services.. Experience with event-based processing and common messaging platforms.. Comfortable building and working with containerized applications.. Cloud infrastructure knowledge and experience working with Helm/Kubernetes and AWS (or similar cloud infrastructure).. Polyglot environments and working with new technologies. Experience and Skills. Proven experience designing and developing RESTful Services and Web Applications.. Experience working with languages such as Python, Ruby, NodeJS, Go.. Full web technology stack (e.g. HTTP, caching, and security).. Service Orientation and Microservice architectures.. Application Performance Tuning (caching, load-testing, load balancing, Kubernetes Pod sizing, etc).. Agile Practices (preferably Scrum).. Willingness and ability to learn new approaches and emerging technology. Solid communication and interpersonal skills.. Bonus. Proven experience with automation and pipelines with GitLab, Github, or other tools.. Proven experience with deploying software and services in Kubernetes on cloud platforms..
