Overview
SRI International's Advanced Technology and Systems Division (ATSD)
performs research across a wide range of disciplines. SRI
specializes in transitioning technology from basic R&D to
fieldable prototypes for both US government and commercial
customers.
SRI ATSD has an opening for a Machine Learning Research Engineer
within the Applied Physics Laboratory. The Applied Physics Lab
conducts R&D in radar, communications, Positioning, Navigation,
and Timing (PNT), Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance
(ISR), quantum sensing, and photonics. This role can be based at
our sites in Boulder, CO, Ann Arbor, MI, Menlo Park, CA or
Princeton, NJ.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a candidate with experience in machine learning as
applied to RF and/or EO/IR signals. Examples of projects we work on
include:
* the identification of emitters and reflectors
* adversarial techniques
* detection of small signals in noise across the electromagnetic
spectrum
This candidate will be expected contribute on current programs and
quickly grow into a task leader and Principal Investigator (PI). A
successful applicant will have a PhD in physics, applied physics,
or engineering, with experience applying machine learning
techniques to data from physical systems.
Qualifications
* PhD in experimental physics, electrical engineering, or related
discipline
* Due to government requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required with
the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
The candidate must have experience in:
* Signal processing and theory (undergraduate level coursework is
sufficient)
* Implementation of machine learning techniques as applied to
real-world signals and systems
* Developing research plans and conducting research and development
in the domains of physics and/or engineering
* Presentation of complex technical topics to a diverse
audience
* Working in teams
* Managing multiple priorities
* Reviewing technical work of others and providing actionable
feedback
Desired skills include:
* An active TS clearance and past experience with classified
work
* Experience with machine learning as applied to RF applications in
particular
* C/C++, Python, Matlab, and/or Julia coding expertise
For Colorado and New York residents, the salary range is: $83,000 -
$140,000. Salary ranges for this role will vary and are based on
several factors, including geographic location, market
competitiveness and equity amongst internal employees in similar
