Job PostingAmerica's Preferred Home Warranty (APHW) is excited to offer a great career opportunity for a Assistant Legal Counsel with one of the fastest growing home warranty businesses in our industry. The incumbent will report directly to General Counsel and work at the corporate headquarters in Jackson, Michigan.This is a full-time position.Position Summary & Responsibilities:The primary responsibility of the Assistant Legal Counsel will be to evaluate and maintain the Company's full compliance with all local, state, and federal laws, regulations, and rules in jurisdictions across the country. This will include, but is not limited to, oversight of the timely renewal of bonds with necessary increases, registrations, licenses, and certificates in all jurisdictions necessary. The incumbent will also assist with routine business matters related to insurance, worker's compensation, unemployment matters, wage and hour regulations and contract performance and compliance. At times the incumbent may be asked to perform legal research and draft reports, filings, memos, and related writing including correspondence.Organizational:

• Participates in the performance improvement plans as requestedAreas of Compliance Oversight:Business Operations; Contracts; Financial Regulation; Licensing & Industry Regulation; Human Resources; Benefits Administration.The incumbent will be expected to maintain familiarity with and help coordinate legal matters (i.e., negotiation, legal analysis, review, etc.) as assigned, including ensuring that follow-up on required items is done, provide working groups with required documentation, and, draft, review or revise a variety of documents relating to all aspects of business.Qualifications:
  • Experience with regulatory compliance preferred.
  • Ability to understand the company's contractual relationships with customers, suppliers, and other parties.
  • Ability to understand the company's objectives and risk tolerance and to incorporate the information in making business and legal recommendations.
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with employees at all levels.Education
    • Juris Doctorate with or without a license to practice law.OR
      • Post-secondary education with a Diploma or equivalent as a Legal Assistant, Law Clerk, Paralegal or similar from an accredited program.Other Candidate Requirements:
        • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office 365: Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
