Who we’re looking for
Toyota’s Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) Department is looking
for a passionate and highly-motivated Automated Driving Systems
(ADS) Development Principal Engineer.
The primary responsibility of this role is to support the
development of Toyota’s Automated Driving Systems (ADS) through
software development, simulation, and data analysis related to
items such as recognition, mapping, localization, path planning,
and vehicle control.
Reporting to the Senior Engineering Manager, the person in this
role will support the Integrated Vehicle Systems (IVS) department's
objective to research, develop, evaluate, and implement innovative
ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) and Automated Driving
Systems (ADS) technologies.
What you’ll be doing
Develop and evaluate new Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and
ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) features, focused on
North American customers and their unique road environment and use
Provide data-driven proposals for new Automated Driving Systems
(ADS) and ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance Systems) features,
subsequently supported by software implementations of the proposed
Evaluate Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and ADAS features in
simulated, closed-track, and public-road environments.
Analyze evaluation data with automated and quantitative methods
to show the performance of Automated Driving Systems (ADS) and ADAS
(Advanced Driving Assistance Systems).
Ability to drive prototype test vehicles including the ability
to gain advanced driver certifications.
What you bring
Advanced degree (Ph.D. or equivalent) in a related engineering
or computer science field OR more than 10 years working experience
in a related field.
Experience developing and testing software using python, C ,
MATLAB/Simulink or other comparable computer language(s).
Willingness to work overtime, when necessary, up to 10% of the
Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up
to 5% of the time.
This position requires driving. A motor vehicle record that’s
acceptable by company standards is required for this position.
Added bonus if you have:
Passion for and experience with automated vehicles or
Designing algorithms using camera, radar, lidar, sonar, or other
sensor data experience.
Experience in developing or evaluating ADS technologies such as
mapping, localization, path planning, and/or control.
Testing, validating, and/or verifying embedded software
Using or creating continuous integration/delivery systems for
Experience using cloud platforms to develop and deploy software
(e.g., AWS, Azure).
Supporting vehicle evaluations on proving grounds or on public
