Job SummaryThe CVC5-ICU is a 8-bed intensive care unit. The patient population is comprised of adult patients who have recently undergone or, in some instances, are to undergo cardiovascular surgery. Prevalent diagnoses on this unit include; valvular stenosis or insufficiency, coronary artery disease, cardiomyopathy, abdominal and thoracic aneurysms, and end stage chronic obstructive disease.Treatments provided include valve replacement or repair, coronary revascularization, ventricular assist devices, heart transplantation, open and endoscopic aneurysm repair, lung transplantation and reduction pneumoplasty.The CVC-ICU provides technologically advanced care, through a highly integrated and cooperative effort of the nursing staff, physicians and other allied health professionals.Mission StatementMichigan Medicine improves the health of patients, populations and communities through excellence in education, patient care, community service, research and technology development, and through leadership activities in Michigan, nationally and internationally. Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.Responsibilities*Duties: The individual in this role will provide clinical leadership through expert nursing care to the patient populations of the CVC-ICU, support and provide clinical leadership coverage to CVC-5 Moderate care when needed. Assist in the design and implementation of unit clinical orientation, mentoring programs, and in-service education in conjunction with the Clinical Nurse Specialist and CVC4-ICU/CVC5-Moderate Care ENC. Actively participate in unit Leadership Team, CQI and monitoring of patient care standards and outcomes; participate in facility wide education groups; provide functional supervision and mentoring to all unit staff. Accountability for staff outcomes related to orientation, mentoring and advancement. Expectations of the position: Demonstrated ability to model and promote positive, constructive, and professional relationships. Demonstrated ability to successfully work with others in assessing, designing and implementing innovative educational programs. Demonstrated ability to create and support an environment characterized by safe discussion, constructive feedback, conflict resolution and direct communication. Demonstrated ability to facilitate change, develop creative solutions, prioritize, problem solve, and evaluate outcomes. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication skills Demonstrated working knowledge of basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office, Outlook, and MI CHART This individual has to be approachable, non-judgmental with staff from all levels of expertise, and open to suggestions and feedback. It is imperative that the nurse in this role possess strong communication and organization skills The ENC must be knowledgeable of current issues in ICU nursing Off shift hours may be required to assist in meeting the needs of orientation and education, this would be negotiated with the Clinical Nursing Director.
