Course Description

This is for a 50% GSSA position; no course is associated with this position.

Responsibilities*

* Develop and participate in student programming that promotes the work of diversity, inclusion, justice, and equity in the SOE, including identifying presenters, public relations/marketing and session facilitation; * Support the development of innovative new programs and initiatives that explore topics such as intersectionality, antiracism, decolonization, healing and liberation in education. * Provide support for signature programs such as the Black Lives Matter in Schools Week of Action. * Develop school-wide education and training for students. * Provide administrative support for the dije strategic plan, specifically initiatives that pertain to student and community programming; * Work with the dije co-implementation leads to assess needs, services, and trainings for the SOE, including interpreting and analyzing relevant climate, cultural competency, and other diversity-related data; * Work with dije implementation co-leads to develop and manage the communications strategy for dije work in the SOE; * Create materials (agendas, handouts, etc.) for workshops and major programs; * Revise, write and edit a variety of written communications (emails, documents, web content, reports, posts for social media outlets); * Support program evaluation through development and implementation of assessment tools (surveys, student interviews, etc.); * Work with dije co-implementation leads on program logistics (rooms, food, materials, etc.); * Coordinate communications with students about programs; * Lead and facilitate meetings of students related to School or College DEI programs; * Interact with students at events; * Develop and update resource materials; * Synthesize information for program reports; * Maintain filing systems and documentation of programs; and, * Perform related office work such as data entry, data management, photocopying, mass mailings, and responding to email.

Required Qualifications*

* Applicants must be currently registered in a graduate program at U-M. * The work described above for this position must be considered academically relevant by the department or degree program in which the student is enrolled. * Familiarity and experience with the SOE's dije programs. * Workshop and/or event planning and facilitation experience. * Ability to handle multiple projects. * Ability to collaborate in a teamed staffing approach on various efforts. * Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, prioritization, and follow-through. * Excellent oral and written communication skills. * Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to work and communicate effectively and professionally with the University community as well as external constituents. * Ability to work collaboratively or independently, as the task requires. * Demonstrated competency with modern computer productivity tools including word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and presentation programs.

Desired Qualifications*

* In addition to the required qualifications listed above, successful candidates will have: * Knowledge of current issues in equity, inclusion, justice, and diversity and the ability to communicate that knowledge to others in an effective manner. * The ability to work, problem solve and make decisions with limited supervision. * Excellent organizational skills with demonstrated ability to prioritize, work under pressure to meet deadlines, attention to detail, and thorough and reliable follow through while handling multiple projects simultaneously. * Experience with issues in graduate education, student development, leadership development, and diversity issues in higher education. * An understanding of the challenges faced by historically minoritized populations in higher education. * Project management experience. * Previous experience developing resource materials. * Basic data analysis and familiarity with Qualtrics.
