Job DetailsJob Location Ann Arbor, MI - Ann Arbor, MIPosition Type Full TimeEducation Level 2 Year Degree -Salary Range $51,257.00 - $64,072.00 Salary/yearJob Category Health Care Description In support of Gift of Life Michigan's mission, vision, and core values, the Organ Recovery Specialist (ORS) is determined, compassionate, and professional. ORS staff will be present during an organ recovery to perfuse, package, and label organs and other specimens in accordance with Gift of Life Michigan Policies and Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN). - ORS will also provide these services to local transplant centers for local and out of state donors. Travel by ground and/or air is required.


  • Facilitate the recovery of abdominal, thoracic, and vascular composite allograft (VCA) organs for transplant and /or research, education, and training
  • Oversee packaging/labeling of organs according to OPTN and Gift of Life Michigan policy
  • Provide preservation services to transplant centers for recoveries of abdominal and thoracic organs.
  • Consults with clinical administrator, triage coordinator, organ allocation specialist, and transplant center teams to facilitate organ donation
  • Photo documentation of key elements of organ recovery per organization guidelines
  • Accurately documents all required information of the organ recovery in electronic donor record
  • Provide assistance to recovering surgeon in procurement of abdominal, thoracic, and VCA organs
  • Monitor and problem solve machine pulsatile perfusion for kidneys and other organs
  • Facilitate organ recovery utilizing supplies that are required for each organ procurement
  • Operating room circulator and other duties as assigned
  • Independently recover organs and tissue for research and education
  • Transport organs and organ recovery supplies as directed
  • Provide four 24-hour call days per week with four of the days being two weekends per month
    Qualifications General Requirements:

    Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) or equivalent required.

    Gift of Life Michigan is a 24 hour/365 day operation which may require an employee to work overtime at the request of the chief executive officer or his/her designee. It is required for the employee to drive to support the mission of the organization. The position requires the individual to possess an unrestricted motor vehicle operator's license, English language proficiency, and hearing acuity sufficient for normal telephone conversations.

    Environmental Conditions:

    MIOSHA Category A occupations require procedures or other occupation-related tasks that involve exposure or reasonably anticipated exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material; or that involve a likelihood for spills or splashes of blood; or other potentially infectious material. This includes procedures or tasks conducted in nonroutine situations as a condition of employments.

    MIOSHA Category B occupations do not require tasks that involve exposure to blood or other potentially infectious material on a routine or nonroutine basis as a condition of employment. Employees of occupations in this category do not perform or assist in emergency medical care or first aid and are not reasonably anticipated to be exposed in any other way.
