Summary



The Center for Surgical Innovation is looking for a qualified candidate interested and passionate about the development of eXtended Reality (XR) applications in medicine. This position will include data analysis, conduction of research studies, and manuscript development. The selected candidate will be provided with experience in the operating room and surgical simulation training to assist with conducting this research. This position provides the opportunity to be a part of a medical and research team excited to produce manuscripts. We focus on bringing cutting edge solutions to clinical care, research, and education with an emphasis on thinking outside the box. The center has been a leader in working with faculty and students to use extended reality technology for various research, education, and clinical applications through our campus-wide collaborative: the Center for Medical Surgical and eXtended Reality (CMSXR). We are members of the nation's first Mixed Innovations in eXtended Reality (MIXR) Center, supported by the National Science Foundation's Industry-University Collaborative Research Center program, as well as industry sponsors such as the FDA, Microsoft, Google, Meta, Sony, Phillips, ApoQlarm and GigXR. The goal of the MIXR center is to improve medical training, patient management, and health care outcomes across all areas of clinical practice using extended reality technology.



Responsibilities*



* Analyze data from current and prior surgical operations and collect patient demographic and outcome information for mixed reality research projects (40%)





* Assist with mixed reality research studies, both in surgical/procedural training, as well as in the operating room. Assist research team with mixed reality equipment set-up during operations. (30%)





* Attend meetings with faculty, residents, students, and industry partners involved in various mixed reality research projects (15%)





* Assist the research team with manuscript development (10%)





* Other duties, as assigned, to mixed reality research at the Center for Surgical Innovation (5%)







Required Qualifications*



* Bachelor's degree in health science or related field

* Familiarity with (or willingness to learn about) mixed reality technology and an understanding of medical terminology

* Excellent work ethic

* Superb attention to detail and outstanding organizational skills

* Ability to work well independently and as part of a team

* Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels

* Ability and willingness to work some evening and weekends, in accordance with study needs



Desired Qualifications*



* Previous academic and/or work experience related to clinical and health sciences mixed reality research

* Experience with manuscript development



Work Schedule



Work schedule will be dependent upon project needs, but is likely to average 10-15 hours per week.



Work Locations



This position may be eligible for remote and/or flexible work opportunities at the discretion of the hiring department. Flexible work agreements are reviewed annually and are subject to change dependent on the business needs of the hiring department, throughout the course of employment. However, we anticipate this position to be onsite for the majority of their schedule.



Background Screening



Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
