Health CareDescription In support of Gift of Life Michigan's core
purpose and values, the employee is professional, compassionate,
and determined, working to honor life through donation. The Triage
Coordinator(s) (TC) is notified of all ventilated organ and tissue
referrals. The incumbent will facilitate communication between Gift
of Life Michigan (GOLM) and referral hospitals, assess donor
suitability in conjunction with Clinical Administrator on call
(CAOC), maintain personnel dispatching, and oversee authorized
organ donor cases.
Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities
- Assess organ referrals for donation potential.
- Oversees vented referrals, which are critical in determination
of case direction.
- Coordinate resources to ensure timely responses on all active
referrals.
- Performs a search of the donor registry(ies) for documentation
of the patient's decision to donate.
- Conducts in depth assessment and follow-up for referrals and
donors.
- Thoroughly reviews hospital records and identifies pertinent
clinical history and documents in Electronic Medical Record
(EMR).
- Consults with Clinical Administrator for assessment of donor
suitability.
- Facilitates communication with Tissue Center, Organ Allocation
Specialist(s), Donation Coordinator(s), Family Service
Coordinator(s), Hospital Donation Advocate(s), Organ Recovery
Specialists (ORS), Clinical Manager(s), Medical Director, Clinical
Director and/or Chief Clinical Officer.
- Assigns appropriate multidisciplinary resources to meet
clinical activity needs.
- Ensures documentation of staff utilization and maintains
stability of on call staff availability.
- Completes EMR review of potential organ/tissue referrals
completed by onsite Gift of Life staff.
- Leads conference calls for potential donors and active donor
cases as it pertains to organ allocation, surgical center
transfers, and other donor related activities.
- Problem solves with onsite team members to ensure donation
opportunities.
- Performs remote verification of Transnet labels and recipient
verification in concert with Donation Coordinator(s) and Organ
Allocation Specialist(s).
- Monitors the flow of communication related to clinical organ
and organ/tissue processes.
- Oversees donor/referral case activities utilizing triage report
document.
- Identify staffing shortages and notify Gift of Life Michigan
staff their support is needed.
- Partner with onsite staff to discuss organ placement, surgical
center transfers and other donation related activities
- Accurately documents all required information into Gift of Life
Michigans Electronic Medical Record including coding, imminent and
eligible outcomes.
- Initiate authorization or pause conversation with family/staff
related to organ, tissue, and eye donation.
Qualifications
- Registered Nurse, Paramedic, or other healthcare training with
at least 18 months of OPO experience. Associates Degree in Nursing
(ADN) is preferred.
- Certified Procurement Transplant Coordinator Certification
within 18 months of employment preferred.
