As the Senior Director, Legal Counsel, you'll play a key role in the XPO legal department and will closely support XPO's less-than-truckload ("LTL") business. This is a legal generalist position with an emphasis on commercial contracting and will involve significant exposure to senior sales and operations leaders. What you'll do on a typical day:

• Closely collaborate with business partners and legal colleagues, and advise on a wide variety of commercial, legal, regulatory, and compliance issues, including safety and environmental compliance
• Provide thought leadership in the commercial contracting area, and review, negotiate and draft a variety of contracts with an emphasis on LTL transportation agreementsLead strategic projects and initiatives related to legal, compliance, and/or regulatory matters
• Assist in the development and redesign of legal support processes, templates, and client-facing materials to drive greater internal efficiencies
• Develop and deliver training to internal clients on various legal and regulatory topics
• Provide litigation support to claims management team and outside counsel as needed and advise on customer and commercial disputes
• Partner with other in-house counsel on a wide variety of issues related to the businessWhat you need to succeed at XPO:At a minimum, you'll need:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent related work or military experience
  • J.D. from an accredited law school
  • 7 years of experience as a practicing attorney; significant experience in commercial contracting, including transportation contracts; strong understanding of applicable laws and regulations, including Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations
  • An active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • Demonstrated attention to detail It'd be great if you also have:
    • 10 years experience as a practicing attorney with a combination of law firm and in-house experience; experience with the LTL transportation sector; experience with real estate issues, including leases and construction contractsBe part of something big.
