Job Description:
Part-time Farmers’ Market Assistant - 8 hours a week! Parks and
Recreation Department The City of Portage is looking for a reliable
and service-driven Part-time Farmers’ Market Assistant to join our
Parks and Recreation Department! If you are passionate about
community, access to fresh food, and providing support to our
growing market, then this is your opportunity to make an impact.
What You'll Do: You will assist the Farmers’ Market Manager at the
Farmers’ Market on Sundays from May through October with handling
food assistance monetary distributions and receipts, making vendor
monetary exchanges for food assistance and rentals, and provide
oversight on food assistance programs including WIC, Eat Smart,
SNAP, Senior Fresh, and Double Up. This role will ensure vendor
licensing is in order for different food types as well as mobile
food operations. You will assist in bike registration, greeting and
directing vendors and musicians, overseeing volunteers, providing
park and market information at the Vendor Market Information Booth.
You will be required to provide market set-up and take-down
assistance. During the off-season, this position will provide
general office support when not assisting with applications, set-up
and implementation of the Holiday Market, the Portage Craft Market
and the Portage Art in the Park Festival. What We're Looking For:
The hours during the Farmers’ Market Season are Sundays ONLY from 6
A.M. – 4 P.M. In the off-season, office hours are flexible but
still only 8 hours per week. The selected individual must be
willing to obtain a Market Manager Credential certification, costs
provided by the city. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age
and possess a high school diploma or GED. Ability to pass a
